On November 26th and 27th in Florence the ninux community organized the third NinuxDay. The NinuxDay ("the only day that lasts for a week-end") is the aperiodic national gathering of the ninux community, the last one was organized in Rome in 2013.
Ninux is one of the oldest community networks in Europe and it has always been peculiar because it is primarily focused on the network itself, rather than on Internet access.

Sarantaporo.gr is a six-year old community network in the north-eastern part of Greece, serving 14 villages in an agricultural area near Mount Olympus. It was originally conceived as a means to address the digital divide in Greece by a small group of people, who ever since play an important role in its implementation, management, and constant evolution.
On July 8, 2016, netCommons project partners from CNRS and Westminster University gathered in London with their guests for a workshop on the history and theory of alternative media networks. The day-long event aimed to link theoretical perspectives on alternative communication networks and media technologies with practical cases by drawing on the participants’ experiences and historical knowledge.

From May 5th to May 7th 2016, I conducted participant-observation during the fifth general assembly (GA) of FFDN, the umbrella organizations gathering 29 community networks (CNs) operating across France (plus one in Brussels, Belgium).
The netCommons project follows very closely the developments regarding the EU radio directive which was adopted in 2014, and which is currently being transposed at the national level by the member states. The reason is that Article 3.3 might put in jeopardy the ability to install alternative, unauthorized by the manufacturer, software on radio devices. We try to answer in simple words a few frequently asked questions in this context, as a quick summary of the detailed analysis provided by the FSFE.
On April 22nd, Panayotis Antoniadis will give a talk at University College London, which summarizes two new Horizon2020 CAPS projects, netCommons and MAZI (meaning "together" in Greek), in which NetHood proudly participates. The abstract of the talk describes the motivation for the existence of these two complementary projects which focus on different types of community networks, different research disciplines, and different case studies.
